Climb Mount Kilimanjaro via the Rongai route less crowded because of its remote location, the route offers trekkers a unique wilderness experience where it is possible to see large wildlife like antelopes, elephant and buffalo. As well there is typically less moisture on this side of the
mountain. The Rongai route is one of the easiest routes up Kilimanjaro. It is the only route to approach Kilimanjaro from the north and descend via Marangu route.

Day 1

Day itinerary

Hotel

Kilimanjaro Airport – Moshi

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, you will be welcomed by our transfer driver and taken to the one of the hotels in Moshi. The rest of the day will be at leisure and you can either relax at the hotel or explore the town of Moshi. In the evening you will attend a briefing in preparation of the upcoming trek.

Day itinerary

Moshi – Rongai Gate (2,364 m) – Simba Camp (2,633 m)

In the morning, you will be picked up at the lodge and taken to the Rongai Gate (2,364 m). The road is quite bumpy and can take even 3 hours of driving. Here you will be registered by the national park authorities and start Your trek to the Kilimanjaro Summit. This day you will trek about 7km from the gate to the first camp which is called Simba Camp. After reaching the Camp in the afternoon, you will get some hot drinks and wait for the dinner.

Simba Camp (2,633 m) – Second Cave Camp (3,491 m) - Kikelelwa Camp (3,665 m)

After a good night of sleep and nice breakfast we continue our trek along moorland terrain on a consistent ascending path. While hiking you will catch some terrific views of Kibo Peak and get your first glimpse of ice fields on eastern Kilimanjaro Crater Rim. When the altitude getting higher the small shrubs of the moorland become thinners as well the temperature begins to drop. After 5 – 6 hours of hiking, you will achieve Second Cave Camp where You will get late hot lunch. After getting some rest you will continue trekking among the moorland towards the majestic view of Mawenzi peak. The afternoon hike gets you closer to the Easter ice fields – continually getting your attention to their liveliness. On the late afternoon You will reach Kikelewa Camp for dinner and overnight .

Po krótkiej porannej odprawie zostaniesz zabrany do Parku Narodowego Tarangire. Park z niekończącą się sawanną drzew, w tym imponującymi baobabami i sezonowymi bagnami, jest także domem dla największych stad słoni w północnej Tanzanii. Oprócz słoni można również zauważyć żyrafy, bawoły, lwy, zebry, gnu i inne rodzaje antylop i gazeli. Po przybyciu do parku przewodnik otworzy dach pojazdu i rozpocznie się oglądanie dzikiej przyrody. Lunch zostanie zjedzony na miejscu piknikowym, a po południu zwiedzisz więcej miejsc w tym niesamowitym i pięknym parku. Późnym popołudniem dotrzesz do Lake Burunge Tented Camp położonego poza parkiem na nocleg.

Day 4

Kikelelwa Camp (3,665 m) – Mawenzi Tarn Hut (4,308 m)

A short but steep climb up grassy slopes is rewarded by superb views. We leave the moorland behind and we enter the Alpine Desert habitat where You can only find some short grass hidden among the rocks and sand. The Mawenzi Tarn Hut is situated in one of the most spectacular setting, in a cirque beneath the jagged teeth of Mawenzi. We arrive the camp around midday again and after hot lunch and some rest we go for acclimatization to Mawenzi Hut (4,600 m). The trip usually takes 2 hours. The magnificent view for Kibo Peak is almost guaranteed. After that You will enjoy the dinner and get some rest in tents.

Day 5

Day itinerary

Mawenzi Tarn Hut (4,308 m)

This the acclimatization day. We will stay in high altitude for whole day. Depends on Your health conditions and weather conditions we will go higher to the place called Jiwe la Ukoyo which is almost near to Kibo Hut (4,708 m). After coming back to our camp, it is time for relax, play cards and small talks.

Day 6

Day itinerary

Mawenzi Tarn Hut (4,308 m) – Kibo Hut (4,708 m)

This the day before the Summit Attack. The lovely day begins with a slight retracing of your steps before you strike out west-wards, crossing the ridge and dropping down the slope to tiptoe along the beautifully barren Saddle’s northern edge. With views like screensavers to east and west, it’s a rare trekker indeed who doesn’t rate this day as their favorite on the mountain. After crossing the Lunar Desert Habitat of the Saddle between Mawenzi Peak and Kibo Peak, we reach Kibo Hut Campsite at the bottom of Kibo crater wall. The rest of the day You spend on resting and preparation for the final ascent on summit night.

Day 7

Day itinerary

Kibo Hut (4,708 m) – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) - Horombo Hut (3,720 m)

Today is your big day. You will start in the middle of the night when the lava ash is still frozen and walking on it is easier. You will begin the long and strenuous trek to the summit in the dark. Passing the Hans Meyer Cave (5,240 m), the climb slowly but surely goes upwards. At sunrise, you will reach Gilman’s Point (5,703 m) on the crater rim. Soon you will have forgotten the cold of the night and after another 1 to 2 hours, you will reach Uhuru Peak. Now you are standing on the “Roof of Africa”. The descent follows the same path and the lava ash will now have thawed and allows for a fast descent. On your return to Kibo Hut, a warm meal awaits you and you can rest a while to regain your strength. After a break of 1 to 2 hours, you will be on your way down to the Horombo Hut where you will arrive in the afternoon. After an evening meal, it is early to bed for most.

Hotel

Horombo Hut (3,720 m) – Marangu Gate (1,847 m) – Moshi

The last stage passes through the heather and moor zone to the Mandara Hut where a cooked lunch awaits you. Soon you will again be in the lush tropical rainforest and after about 6 to 7 hours of trekking, you will be back at the Kilimanjaro National Park gate. After saying goodbye to your mountain crew, you will be taken back to the hotel. There you can have a warm shower and celebrate your success in reaching the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro. You will have dinner and spend the night at the hotel in Moshi.
