4 days MOUNT MERU Trekking Tour
Are you dreaming of an amazing adventure?
Mount Meru is the second highest mountain in Tanzania and the fifth highest in Africa with the elevation of 4,562 meters above the sea level. It is located inside of Arusha National Park, two hours’ drive from Moshi. Similar to Mount Kilimanjaro, this is not a technical climb so no special climbing gear or techniques are needed. The climb is most commonly done in fours days although a three-day option is possible, but not recommended unless You are quite fit and experienced. The climb is steeper than on Mount Kilimanjaro. Many people use this trek as an acclimatization hike before attempting the highest mountain in Africa. The number of people climbing Mount Meru is far, far less than Mt. Kilimanjaro which makes the route less crowded. There is only one route available for climbing Mount Meru. Overnights are in simple dormitory style huts with solar power lightning. Camping is not allowed on Mount Meru slopes.

Day 2
Miriakamba Huts (2,514 m) – Saddle Huts (3,570 m)
Today’s hike is short but concisely steep all the way up. It is our favorite section of the Mount Meru trek. The path is impressive, we go through wooden staircase leading west up the slopes of the ridge towards the Saddle. Of course, there are amazing views over your shoulder of Kilimanjaro glowering at its little brother, its white summit glistening in the sun. It is a great morning walk! On the way to Saddle Huts we will stop at Mgongo Wa Tembo (3,086 m) for a lunch with views over the Crater Plain. The path continues to climb after the break, soon leaving the forest for something altogether more alpine – desert habitat. After reaching Saddle Huts (3,570 m) and having short break we go for acclimatization climb to Little Meru (3,779 m) which will take around 1,5 hours. After early dinner we will start the preparation for Your big day!
Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner – Drinks – Hot Coffee and Tea included.

Day 3
Saddle Huts (3,570 m) – Socialist Peak (4,562 m) – Miriakamba Huts (2,514 m)
This is the summit day! You wake up at around noon, get some hot drinks and snacks and start the climb to the Socialist Peak (4,562 m) which takes 5-6 hours. The stage begins with a crossing the Saddle before bending south to the start of the climb. It’s a walk that sees you leave behind larger vegetation – the ericas and philippias – on a winding path that eventually joins the crest of a ridge that brings you out to Rhino Point (3,882 m), the climb’s first landmark. For the next couple of hours, the path follows the course of the crater rim. Being night, of course, you will have to wait for the views of the crater until the morning. We will reach the Summit around 07.00 am, the perfect time to admire the sunrise and magnificent view of Mount Kilimanjaro. After spending on the Socialist Peak (4,562 m) 20 minutes we start our trek down back to Saddle Huts (3,570 m) for lunch and some rest. After packing our stuff, we head down to Mirakamba Huts (2,514 m) where we get dinner and overnight.
Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner – Drinks – Hot Coffee and Tea included.
